Cover Art: The Killers "I Got Soul" covered by "Young Soul Rebels"

Artists from the Island Records division of Universal Music group covered a new version of "I Got Soul" all funds of the selling of the single going to War Child. Young Soul Rebels consists of VV Brown, Frankmusik, MPHO, N-Dubz, Pixie Lott, Tinchy Stryder, Kid British, Chipmunk, McLean, Ironik, Domino Go, Bashy, Egypt, and the London Community Gospel Choir. I am already a pretty big Frankmusik and VV Brown supporter and I actually think the entire group did a good job remaking the single...even Tinchy. Although the video is sure corny. I mean I know its supposed to reminiscent of "We Are The World" and all but it's so sappy, and everyone in the video looks like they are giving themselves one big pat on the back and saying: "look at me! I am so deep! I like kids! I don't like wars! Look at me singing, I look so moved! Please buy my album..." So minus the barftastic cornball video the song is good.

VV Brown - Game Over

I love her! She is refreshing and is breathing new life into Rn'B and soul, and she doesn't trail! I posted her song "Shark In The Water" on my June Playlist and this song is just a superb. I think VV and Keri Hilson will finally revive the ailing and boring Rn'B music industry (sorry Beyonce fans but I'm sick of her...she is sooooo 2001).

Yes a girl can dream, even if those dreams only come in the form of scripted television fantasies (I'm thinking Sex and the City). I was having some fun browsing through the ready to wear collections of DSquared^2 and Kenzo and it really made me wish I had an unlimited budget so I could waste all my money on the three C's (coffee, clothes, and concerts). I am not really materialistic...really I'm not, however when I see something like the Kenzo fashion show I get a nagging impulse to "buy." Its too bad I don't have 500 to drop on a sweater...more like 500 to painfully drop on a couple of physics textbooks.

Anyways I figured instead I would feature some music that has been used in fashion shows or used as inspiration for designers...maybe not the most exciting topic for the guys who read this (sorry).

La Roux - In For The Kill
This single was used in the Chanel couture show, I have mixed feelings about the rising popularity of La Roux, and actually did a June post about it.



Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero
Karen O is probably one of the most iconic figures in alternative music and alternative fashion. She may not be everyone's poster child for beauty or style, but she keeps people talking.



These New Puritans - Swords of Truth
Created music for the Dior Homme 2007 fashion shows with the experimental track called "Navigate."



VV Brown - Crying Blood
She was a model before she became a singer/ songwriter and still graces catwalks from time to time.



Yelle - Je Veux te Voir
She has become somewhat of a fashion icon in France.

July Playlist

V V Brown - "Shark in the Water" its refreshing to know some rhythm and blues hasn't lost it's soul. Its a great song with strong vocals, production and songwriting. Beyonce, after the "Sasha Fierce" fiasco its time to take some notes.



Frankmusik - "Confusion Girl" normally a guy with such a high pitched voice would annoy me, but Franmusik makes it work, not to mention that the production on this song makes it unbelievably catchy.



Fanfarlo - "The Walls are Coming Down" a romantic little indie tune, that reminds me of a more melancholy Matt Pond PA, with some Grizzly Bear thrown in.



Robbers On High Street - "The Fatalist" once in a while I like to resurrect some of my favorite older songs in my music collection on these playlists, this one is from 2006.



Holly Mcnarland - "Beautiful Blue" I have recently rediscovered this song and it is still just as beautiful as it was back in 2002.



Lucky Soul - "Lips are Unhappy" forget eighties nostalgia or even the calls of the seventies (MGMT, Chairlift) Lucky Soul go all the way back to the early 1960s.


The Big Pink - "Velvet" The name of the band might be questionable but the slick cool tunes they create leaves little doubt in my mind that they are going to be big in the indie scene.



Rose Elinor Dougal - "Start/Stop/Synchro" indie synth folk, a la Kate Bush.



Savoir Adore - "MERP" not a huge fan of the music video, but I dig the organic sound. I have a soft spot for chorus like boy-girl shouting indie groups I guess (The Go! Team, Los Campesionos!, Broken Social Scene) but hey it works.
